Frequently Asked Questions
We recommend booking a celebration cake at least 4 weeks in advance and wedding cakes as soon as possible after securing your date and venue. As a small independent bakery I place 100% of my attention on one cake at a time so availability for wedding cakes can go quickly. It is always worth dropping us a message if a cake is needed more 'last minute' we will always do our best to help if we can.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Can I collect my order?
Cakes can of course be collected from the bakery here in Filton Bristol free of charge, we are available for collections Mon-Fri 9am-5pm. No collections are available on Saturdays or Sundays.
Do you need a deposit?
Yes we require a deposit of 50% at the time of booking in order to secure your date in our diary. The remaining balance will be due 1 week before the delivery date for celebration cakes and 1 calendar month before the delivery date for wedding cakes. Payment can be made with cash or bank transfer. In the event of late payment Houston Cakes Ltd reserves the right to cancel the booking or hold the order until full payment is made. If your cake is required within the week we will need full payment to be made at the time of booking.
How do I pay?
We accept bank transfer or cash, our payment details will be given at the time of booking.
Do you deliver?
Yes we deliver to most areas within Bristol and the South West (within a 30 mile radius of our base in Filton). Delivery costs are calculated upon booking . Delivery is available Monday-Friday for celebration cakes (subject to availability), only wedding cakes are delivered on the weekends. We will attempt delivery of the cake only once so it is essential someone is there to take delivery of the cake. Due to the nature of the product we cannot leave cakes outside but are happy to discuss a safe place to deliver to at the time of booking.
How is the cost of a cake calculated?
At Houston Cakes we pride ourself on offering fair and honest pricing. Included in the price of a cake are the hours spent designing, baking and decorating, materials, energy costs, delivery, overheads and that is it! Cake costs are calculated after consultation with you the client and vary considerably depending on the size and design of the cake itself. Cake decoration can be very time consuming as I take great pride in my work and work tirelessly to get things perfect for your celebration.
